There are different kinds of golf bags designed to suit a golfer's particular needs. If you ride on a cart, then you will want one of the best cart bags. Our expert review:

The Ping Hoofer is one of the best golf bags on the market and might be the most well-known range within the entire stand bag sector. With each new iteration of the design Ping continues to offer an incredible blend of performance and stylish looks.

While there are lighter options on the market, it comes in at just 5.5lbs which is impressive given the sturdiness and storage on offer. The comfort is right up there too thanks to two well-cushioned straps and a hip pad which make it very easy to carry. While not specifically a hybrid bag, the Hoofer is versatile and is able to go onto a push cart. A cart strap channel passes underneath the main pocket making it straightforward to attach, while still ensuring unrestricted access to pockets.

Speaking of pockets, there are 11 of them on the Hoofer, all varying in size and depth so there is plenty of space to put waterproofs, valuables, a rangefinder, drinks etc.

Like all of the best Ping golf bags, the stand itself is excellent and performed very well for us in all manner of conditions and terrain. Downhill, uphill or sidehill lies were conquered with absolute ease thanks to the quality of the stand and the renowned Hoofer base design.

Our expert review:

One of the best Titleist golf bags on the market, the Players 5 StaDry Stand Bag is a stylish, classic-looking offering that really strikes the right chord with us. The design remains faithful to the DNA that made it resonate with so many golfers worldwide and we absolutely love the classic Titleist look.

There is more to it than just appealing aesthetics though. This bag oozes class and simplicity and comes in four color options that will appeal to a wide range of tastes, but the main stand-out feature for us when we tested this bag was definitely the straps, which didn't twist or tangle throughout the 10 rounds we used the bag for.

The bag has tons of practical features including a spacious golf ball pocket, a Sharpie holder and two external lined cooler pouches to store your beverages. Titleist has also added a new 5-way top divider which really helps with both accessibility and club organisation.

Our expert review:

This is one of the best lightweight golf bags on the market, weighing in at just 3.5lbs. Despite how light it is, there is no lack of sturdiness and in our testing we had no problems with the legs kicking out when placed on the ground so you can have peace of mind that even on a windy day it won't topple over.

While we have tested better, the straps on the Exo Lite are comfortable and easy enough to adjust, and in tandem with the comprehensive hip pad makes for a comfortable carrying experience over the shoulders and back.

There is a lot to like about the Exo Lite Stand Bag and our favorite feature was the magnetic rangefinder pocket, which is not only convenient but also feels super-premium. If you don't want to store your rangefinder in this pocket then there are plenty of other pockets that will do, or there's even an accessory clip that makes for a good alternative.

Be aware though that the bag isn't fully waterproof and is certainly more suited to summer months.

Our expert review:

Vessel is a Southern California brand best known for its luxury travel bags. So if you have money to spend and are after an up market, trendy golf bag then this designer offering could be right in your wheelhouse. The Player Air might be the Holy Grail of stand bags and delivers a genuinely lightweight golf bag that is packed with features and storage space.

The strap system features Vessel’s patented Equilibrium 2.0 Double Strap, which is clever and we think delivers multiple benefits. It has an 8-point swivel mechanism which self-adjusts to the way a golfer walks, so it balances perfectly when carrying. Additionally, the straps themselves are nicely padded and we found them to be very comfortable.

Perhaps the stand-out thing for us when it comes to this bag is the aesthetics. This bag is stunning, with the all-over black finish really giving a premium feel. There are three other colors to choose from as well, but the black really looks incredible we think. All of this innovation, style and high-quality material comes at a price though, quite literally, as the Player Air comes in at the higher end of the price scale. Given the carbon fibre and premium fabrics used in the build, we think it's worth the extra cost.

Our expert review:

Sun Mountain has been making high-quality golf bags for many years and the 2024 edition of the Litespeed bag continues that tradition. It features a range of new colors and patterns, while there are also some new bits of technology in the mix too. In our view this one of the best lightweight fully waterproof stand bags money can buy.

You get excellent protection of the elements as the fabric has a waterproof treatment on both sides as well as seamed seals which make it impossible for water to penetrate the bag. As the name would suggest, this bag is very light (around the 4.4 pounds, which equates to just two kilograms) and puts very little strain on your back. The feeling of ease when carrying is certainly helped by the new bubble design hip pad and the X-strap system.

Finally, we love how the pockets are laid out. It's very clever and clearly shows this bag has been designed by golfers. Overall, the Litespeed is one of the most complete and well thought-out stand bags we have tested recently, which is no more than we would expect from one of the best Sun Mountain golf bags.

Our expert review:

According to G/FORE, this is the brand’s best-selling carry bag, and we can certainly see why as it offers standout looks, tons of features and exceptional versatility. Aesthetically it's stunning, but you'd expect that because this bag has been made in collaboration with Vessel. Put G/FORE and Vessel together and you are always going to get something that looks incredible, and this bag oozes style and attitude.

It's not just the looks that make this a fantastic bag though. It ticks every box, not least comfort when carrying. The clever strap system feels superb on the back while we really enjoyed the way you can make it a single strap if you want to by clipping the straps on and off. It’s remarkably sturdy, too, with the chrome plated fiberglass legs and feet ensuring it’s never in danger of toppling over.

In terms of storage, it's not ideal for the golfer who likes to carry a lot, but we found there to be an adequate number of pockets available for our needs. We especially loved the attention to detail, such as the small loop for putting your towel and/or bag tags on, as well as a really good fixture for your umbrella. In our view it's the little things make a difference and there's just so many things to like about this bag.

Our expert review:

The Fairway C HD is a terrific offering from Callaway that performed exceptionally for us in testing. At 2kg (4.4lbs) it is one of the most lightweight bags you can buy. It is capable of holding all 14 golf clubs as well as everything else a golfer needs to get them around 18 holes.

In terms of comfort, the Fairway C has an all-new strap and hip pad system that uses EVA molding for added comfort around the shoulders and back. It's very easy to carry and we think that the EVA within the straps and on the hip pad really enhances the carrying experience. It adds a level of softness that you don't get with many other of the other options on the market. Because of this we would say that the Fairway C provided one of the best carrying experiences we've had with a golf bag.

As for storage, there are five pockets in total. The stand out for us was the valuables' pocket which is fleece-lined to protect your phone from scratching. It's pretty deep too, meaning you can comfortably store a phone, wallet, keys etc in there. The only slight let-down for us was the cooler pocket, as the opening is a touch on the small side which means it is very difficult to slip a water bottle in and out when on the move. Not a big deal of course, but it is a little inconvenient.

Our expert review:

The stand out feature of this bag and by far its biggest selling point is the waterproof qualities on offer. In our extensive testing of this bag in varying weather conditions we found that the Ultradry Pro kept all of our clubs and personal items bone-dry. It achieves this thanks to seam-sealed zippered pockets, plus Cobra have also included a waterproof rain hood that diverts water away from your club heads and shafts.

Something else that really impressed us about the Ultradry Pro in testing was the straps, which were very well-padded and cleverly designed. This system has a well-positioned shoulder clip that allows the bag to swivel and move whilst you're walking the course so, as you put the bag on, it will move to the adjusted height. This Swivel Strap worked superbly throughout the round and really impressed us.

Our expert review:

The Dri Lite Hybrid Plus is ideal for golfers who are not put off by bad weather. This bag will keep all water out as the material and zippers will hold firm against even the most severe rainstorms.

The versatility of this bag is a real stand-out, which you'd probably expect from a Hybrid, which basically means that it can either be carried or attached to a cart or trolley. The beauty of this is that you don't need more than one golf bag. If you usually use a cart but suddenly find yourself having to carry, that can be a problem as cart bags are usually difficult and cumbersome to carry. The Dri Lite Hybrid Plus solves that issue.

It isn't the most lightweight bag on this list but it is surprisingly lightweight considering it doubles as a cart bag and comes in at around 2kg, which is very impressive.

We have always been fans of Big Max bags and we love how they are packed with handy features, and the Dri Lite Hybrid is no exception. The dual padded strap system makes it very easy and comfortable to carry, while it also comes with a 14-way divider system for your clubs. You don't often see that on golf stand bags so that's a nice bonus. Its flat bottom means it will fit seamlessly on any of the best push carts or electric trolleys.

Our expert review:

The FlexTech from TaylorMade is more than just a stand bag so, much like the Big Max Dri Lite hybrid mentioned above, if you like to carry and use a push cart or electric trolley from time to time, then this bag is a great option to consider.

Part of its versatility comes from having a cart strap pass-through area, as well as removable straps, which allows it to be used as a cart bag with ease. In testing we thought that the straps were nicely padded on the shoulders and we liked the self-adjusting strap system that allows you to quickly find the most comfortable position.

We were impressed with the storage on offer too. There are nine pockets, including a full-length apparel pocket, magnetic cooler pocket, water bottle pocket and a fleece-lined, fully waterproof valuables' pocket. In terms fo pockets, we can confidently say it's the most varied and well-proportioned amount we've seen on a bag we have tested.

The only downside to this bag is that it is not fully waterproof and, as such, you will want to bear this in mind if you play frequently in the wet.

Our expert review:

This lightweight, versatile stand bag from Mizuno is designed to help you get around the course in some of the harshest weather conditions while keepng you bone dry. While it's lightweight nature makes it best suited to summer months, our testing showed that it can withstand heavy rain and will deal with those sudden downpours.

Aesthetically we love how this bag looks, especially in the traditional Mizuno blue and white colorway. It also comes in four other color options, so there should be something for everyone.

We thoroughly enjoyed testing this bag, with the biggest stand out being the high-density foam shoulder straps which make it a joy to carry. Storage space is plentiful as the bag boasts nine pockets, including a full-length apparel pocket and a fur-lined valuables' pocket that we found especially useful. Another feature we are always happy to see when testing bags is the Velcro glove patch, whilst we found the legs to be lightweight and sturdy, dealing with whatever weather conditions are thrown at it.

Our expert review:

As is often the case with OGIO, the main standout of this bag is the design, which includes multiple eye-catching colorways that will split opinion but are perfect for the golfer that likes to stand out and make an impression. We tested the 'Aloha Oe' model but OGIO have other models available, some equally as bright, and others a touch more subdued, so there is something for all different tastes.

When it comes to performance, there is definitely a lot to like and we were very impressed with how it tested for us. The bag is very well made and is sturdy. It's constructed with various solid sections, such as the top rim, bottom of the bag and the stand, but there are also delicate sections like a soft padded back rest and soft inner lining of the valuables' pocket. It's obvious that a lot of thought and care has gone into the design of this bag.

Out on the course, we found that the six spacious pockets provided ample storage for everything we needed, whilst the aforementioned sturdy construction and comfortable carry experience make this a bag that excels in all areas. We also like some of the other thoughtful features, such as an umbrella holder and OGIO’s very clever Fit Disc self-balancing strap system.

As with all of our equipment testing, we take our process of testing golf stand bags very seriously. Regardless of whether we are sent a product by a manufacturer or if we buy it ourselves, each bag is put to the test out on the golf course in different conditions to ensure we can provide thorough and reliable advice. Rest assured that manufacturers cannot pay for a good review from us because all of our reviewers tell it how they see it. Every member of the Golf Monthly team is an avid golfer and as such, knows what does and doesn't make for a good stand bag.

As far as our methodology goes, if we say we have reviewed a product, that means we have done so properly. We also strive to test out all of the features on the golf bag. That means, for example, if the valuables pocket claims to be waterproof, we will pour water on it to find out.

Specifically to stand bags, we put the stand itself to the test on different lies, angles and ground conditions because there is nothing more annoying than a stand bag with a poor stand. This comprehensive testing style is not just exclusive to golf bags either, we test using the same ethos and methodology across all gear categories.

So what are some of the factors to consider when you are purchasing a stand bag? Well below we have listed some that we think are the most important and most of the bags above will satisfy all our criteria.

Weight

If a bag is going to be on your back and shoulders during the round, then it has to be light otherwise it can cause fatigue later in the round. It is important to realize that some models are lighter than others and while lighter is usually better, if you want heavier models (for most storage perhaps) or if you need a bag you can use on carts too, there are models designed for that.

Comfort

On that same kind of note, comfort is also vitally important. It has to fit properly on your body whilst also having comfortable straps. Some also have padded areas around the hips and back as well which helps.

Storage

If storage for all your gear is important, then some bags have more, and larger, pockets. The top models will have specifically designed pockets for your apparel, balls, accessories, perhaps a beverage pocket and definitely one to house valuables.

Strength

Whilst a good stand bag will be light and comfortable, it should also be strong whether it be the core bag section, the strap, or the stand itself. Preferably the sturdier the better because it has to protect your golf clubs properly. A good stand is essential if you play golf on uneven courses or in the wind.

Waterproof

If you are not put off by playing in the rain then waterproofing will be an important factor to consider. Some models above are better than others in this regard because they have been designed as such.

Looks

Importantly many brands have started to realize that we want our golf bags to look good as well as be functional. As such there are loads of unique designs and colors to choose from so it is a case of finding something you like the look of.

Budget

The final factor to consider is of course price. When choosing a golf bag you have to be aware of what you can afford because there are good models at every single price point. If you want to spend more, or less, then there is a bag for everyone.
