Callaway County Corporal Justin Bax continues his recovery at home with his family after he was shot during a traffic stop on Oct. 14, according to the Callaway County Sheriff's Office. He said the support he's received during this time has been invaluable.
Meanwhile, Deputy Gardner Pottorff is still in the hospital, making steady progress each day, according to the sheriff's office. Pottorff underwent a minor procedure Thursday but remains on track for recovery.
The sheriff's office said citizens have continued dropping off snacks and donations for Bax and Pottorff. Online donations can be made on the Callaway County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.
Pottorff had been in the ICU since he was shot during the traffic stop on Interstate 70. The stop involved Jonathan Beason, 37, from Medina, Texas, who had a number of out-of-state arrest warrants, according to past KOMU 8 reporting.
According to the sheriff's office, during the traffic stop, Beason and the deputies exchanged gunfire. Pottorff and Bax were injured, and Beason reportedly died at the scene.
Bax was released from University Hospital on Oct. 16 and was greeted by family and friends outside the hospital exit.
