Cobra Kai is set 30 years after the events in The Karate Kid. Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), sworn enemies from the first film, are both residing in California and run into one another again. Old rivalries reignite and inflated egos result in the pair finding themselves training kids in rival dojos. They eventually come together, and it culminates in the Sekai Taikai tournament that will be the focus of the sixth and final season. Part one of the three-part final season premiered in July and the second part is coming November 15, 2024. Before diving in, it’s important to remember the most pivotal events that occurred in part two.

Fresh off their battle with Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) where the good guys emerged victorious, the Miyagi-do dojo has qualified for the Sekai Taikai worldwide championship event. This means it’s time to train. However, when Daniel and Johnny learn that the competition will take place in Barcelona and only six fighters can be sent from each dojo, they need to figure out the best way to determine who will represent them.

They enlist the help of Mike Barnes (Sean Kenan) to be an impartial judge, and he puts the kids through a grueling test of strength, endurance, willpower, smarts, and skills. He eliminates them one by one until four people advance. Not surprisingly, this is Tory (Peyton List), Robby (Tanner Buchanan), Sam (Mary Mouser), and Miguel (Xolo Maridueña). The last two to be selected are Demetri (Gianni DeCenzo) and Devon (Oona O’Brien).

With the team of six chosen, the only decision left is to determine the captains. After many disagreements about training style and favoritism, Johnny and Daniel put their differences aside and decide to do things the fairest way. The two young women will fight for points with Johnny as referee while the two young men will do the same with Daniel as an impartial judge.

Robby defeats Miguel, and Tory shows up in the nick of time to fight Sam for the position. The others don’t yet know, however, that her mother has just passed away. Stricken with grief and desperate to be the fighter she knows her mother wanted her to be, Tory fights violently, delivering hits even after acquiring a point. No one understands why she’s behaving this way until Amanda (Courtney Henggeler) gets a call from the hospital advising her of Tory’s situation. She tells Daniel and he urges Johnny to stop the fight because Tory isn’t in the right frame of mind.

Angered and believing what John Kreese (Martin Kove) told her — that she will always play second fiddle to Sam — Tory abruptly quits. Sam gets the captain position by default and the team prepares for the event. When they arrive in Barcelona and head out onto the mat for the opening ceremonies, Miyagi-do is stunned to see Cobra Kai as a competitor, and Kreese, along with Kim Da-eun (Alicia Hannah-Kim), as sensei. But they are even more shocked when they see Tory walk out in a black uniform, having joined their dojo as a captain.

Revealed in the Season 5 finale, Kreese plotted to fake his own death and escape from prison, and he was successful. In Season 6, he shows up at Kim’s dojo, declaring that Cobra Kai is back. He asks Master Kim Sun-Yung (C.S. Lee) to allow him and his dojo to represent Cobra Kai in the tournament. He’s initially rejected but completes a seemingly impossible task to retrieve an ancient family knife. To get the knife, he must battle a cobra and bring the knife back with the cobra’s head. This impresses Master Kim, who gives Kreese his blessing.

Back in California, Kreese finds Tory in the parking lot of the medical center where she’s meeting with the doctor about her mother’s medication, and he tries to convince her to join Cobra Kai. He plays on her emotions and vulnerabilities, telling her that Miyagi-do can’t be trusted and that she will never be a priority for them as long as Sam is around.

Kreese is next seen in Barcelona at the Sekai Taikai tournament with a smug look on his face, clearly ready and excited to wreak havoc for Miyagi-do. But it’s the fact that he has managed to convince Tory to rejoin him that has all her old friends and mentors devastated.

Have a nice little palate cleanser between Parts 1 & 2 of Cobra Kai Season 6 with this blooper reel.

Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) has always been at the center of Cobra Kai. His teachings are the driving force in Daniel’s dojo and throughout his entire life. But his honorable legacy takes a turn in the first part of Season 6. Daniel, Chozen (Yuji Okumoto), and Amanda find a chest at Mr. Miyagi’s house, hidden under the floor. Inside, there’s evidence that he once owned a boxing gym. It seems innocuous, but Daniel is taken aback that there would be anything in Mr. Miyagi’s life that he hid from his young protégé.

After following the breadcrumbs, they discover that Mr. Miyagi fled the country to China in 1947 after reportedly being wanted for assault and robbery. Daniel is gutted to learn about the potentially dark past of his mentor, wondering how Mr. Miyagi could not only have kept such things from him but also that he could have done them at all. The realization really affects Daniel and leads to further conflict between him and Johnny as Daniel takes out his anger and frustration.

After the aforementioned fight between Tory and Sam for the captain position, Daniel and Johnny have it out. Johnny thinks Daniel made the decision to favor Sam while Daniel doesn’t believe Tory should be fighting when she’s grieving. Johnny screams that when he was dealing with his own family stuff at that age, all he wanted to do was get on the mat and fight, and doing so helped him.

Johnny delivers a low blow, however, when he insults Mr. Miyagi and his “chest of secrets,” which Johnny had earlier learned about from Amanda. In a reflex action of anger, Daniel punches Johnny in the nose and immediately apologizes. But it’s too late. Johnny agrees to participate in the Sekai Taikai tournament because he’s doing it for the kids. But after that, he declares, he and Daniel “are done.”

Cobra Kai's showrunners want to expand Mr. Miyagi's bold backstory in the upcoming parts of season 6.

Back outside with the kids, as Daniel is placing the official Sekai Taikai headband on Sam’s head, he stops and stares at it. He runs to Mr. Miyagi’s secret chest and digs through the items. He finds a headband with the same design and logo and realizes that Mr. Miyagi competed in the Sekai Taikai as a captain. As he examines the headband, he notices drops of blood on it. This leaves Daniel questioning everything he knows, everything Mr. Miyagi taught him, and essentially the entire basis of his life and principals.

It's likely that Daniel will do some investigating to try and figure out when Mr. Miyagi participated, what happened, and why. There’s still that other issue about fleeing to China, assault and robbery, and owning a gym to piece together as well.

Season 6, part two of Cobra Kai includes five episodes that will take place through the Sekai Taikai tournament. With Johnny and Daniel at odds with one another, tension among other players like Demetri and Hawk and Robby and Tory, everything on the line for people like Miguel, and so many other dojos and senseis to contend with beyond just Kreese, it’s sure to be a wild ride.

Stream Cobra Kai on Netflix. All five Season 6, part two episodes will be available to stream on November 15, 2024. Part three is confirmed for February 2025.

Many characters on Cobra Kai are proficient in karate, already or after intense training. But how many of the actors actually know martial arts?

As The Penguin ends, fans are craving more of Robert Pattinson's Batman. Here's what's known so far about the secretive Batman sequel.

Bosch: Legacy may be ending, but a new Bosch story is just around the corner.

Joking that Chevy Chase "needs to be killed," Carpenter says, "I almost wanted to quit the business after that film."

Will Smith & Margot Robbie are undeniably two of Hollywood's biggest stars, and their sizzling chemistry in 2015's Focus led to rumors of an affair.

These are some of the incredible movies that will be released on Prime Video in November 2024.
