Callaway County Sheriff's Office releases names of deputies shot on Monday

The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office released the names of the deputies injured in a shooting Monday morning on Interstate 70.

A Facebook post from the department stated that Corporal Justin Bax and Deputy Gardner Pottorff were the two injured.

The post states that both officers are facing a long recovery. It could be six months before they fully recover, according to the post.

The men were injured whenJonathan A. Beason, 37, of Medina, Texas, opened fire during a traffic stop.

The deputies returned fire, and Beason died at the scene.

The sheriff’s office also stated that the families of both deputies were working with the Chief Mason Griffith Foundation.

There are links where people can donate to Deputy Pottorff and Corporal Bax. The donations, except for standard credit card fees, will 100% go to the deputies.

The sheriff’s office warns people to be aware of fraudulent fundraising. They said the links to the Chief Mason Griffith Foundation are the only legitimate ways to donate to help the deputies.
