PXG’s Home Course Hosts Military Golf Event Backed By Rival Callaway

Oct 16, 2024

Scottsdale National, the Arizona home base of PXG, is hosting a collegiate golf tournament sponsored ... [+] by Callaway that had to be moved from Florida because of Hurricane Milton.

In an example of how competing businesses in the golf industry can come together in a crisis, Scottsdale National Golf Club — the home base of PXG — is hosting the annual Commander-in-Chief’s Cup that’s presented by Callaway, a competitor in the golf equipment business.

PXG founder Bob Parsons, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, offered to host the prestigious event between collegiate golf teams from the Army, Navy, and Air Force after Hurricane Milton disrupted plans to hold the tournament at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Florida, and forced organizers to find a new location on short notice.

The 54-hole tournament is scheduled for Oct. 13-15 at the exclusive private club in the Sonoran Desert of Scottsdale, Arizona.

PXG founder Bob Parsons is a Marine Corps veteran who has long supported the U.S. military.

“I have the utmost respect for (Callaway CEO) Chip Brewer and Callaway for their support of this marquee event,” Parsons said. “Years ago, at the beginning of the Covid virus pandemic, Chip Brewer stepped up to offer PXG the use of Callaway’s tour truck. I’ve never forgotten that.”

“I also admire these student athletes tremendously for their commitment to golf, school, and serving our country,” added Parsons, who has long supported the golf programs of the three participating military academies by offering custom-fitted clubs, equipment and other resources. When I heard that the tournament needed to be moved and Chip was the man behind the event, it was an easy decision to open the gates at Scottsdale National.”

The Other Course at Scottsdale National will host the 54-hole Commander-in-Chief's Cup between the ... [+] Army, Navy and Air Force.

Last year, the U.S. Military Academy beat Navy in a playoff to win the inaugural Commander-in-Chief’s Cup presented by Callaway Golf at The Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia.

Billy Hurley, a PGA Tour winner and Navy veteran who is on the board for the CIC Cup, said the call to Parsons was the first one tournament organizers made when they realized they needed an alternate venue.

"Within 36 hours of our initial contact, he confirmed that Scottsdale National would be our new venue,” said Hurley. “We are incredibly grateful to Bob and Renee Parsons, as well as the entire Scottsdale National membership and staff, for rolling out the red carpet for our service academy student-athletes.”

The event will be played on the newer of the two championship layouts at Scottsdale National: The Other Course from Jackson-Kahn Design, which uniquely has six par 3 holes along with six par 4s and six par 5s.

“The Other Course will provide a terrific test of golf, and we look forward to seeing who takes home the CIC Cup on Tuesday," said Hurley.

PXG has long demonstrated a commitment to the military and first responder golf community, having established its PXG for Heroes program in 2018 that provides special pricing and experiences for members of the U.S. Armed Forces as well as law enforcement officers, firefighters, and EMTs.
